Bus Crash Leaves Sixteen Dead in Indonesia

(MENAFN) A catastrophic passenger bus accident claimed at least 16 lives and left 18 others wounded Monday in Indonesia's Central Java province, marking one of the region's deadliest traffic incidents in recent months, authorities confirmed.

The vehicle careened out of control after striking a road divider before violently flipping over, officials reported. The impact proved fatal for nearly half of those aboard the ill-fated journey.

The bus was transporting 34 passengers on a scheduled route from the capital city of Jakarta to Yogyakarta, according to media. The journey, which typically takes several hours through central Indonesian provinces, ended in tragedy on Monday morning.

Emergency responders rushed to the scene immediately following the crash, transporting injured survivors to nearby medical facilities for urgent treatment. Medical teams worked to stabilize the wounded passengers, several of whom sustained critical injuries in the rollover.
